Unmounted Double Row Ball Bearings

The self-aligning ball bearing has two rows of balls which run in a common spherical raceway in the outer ring, and each row of balls in a separate raceway in the inner ring. This design reduces sensitivity to misalignment and shaft deflections. Self-aligning ball bearings generate less friction so they run cooler in high speed applications.

Double row ball bearings which are not self-aligning have a separate raceway for each row of rolling balls. These bearings can withstand a higher level of radial (normal) load than single row ball bearing units.
